Shannah reached back with one hand and pulled her wavy sandy-colored hair into a ponytail, using the other hand to guide her horse, a handsome buckskin paint gelding. Tango was still pretty hyper since they'd only just left the barn and he jerked into a trot when Shannah took one hand off the reins. He-ey... wa-alk... Shannah reprimanded her her horse in a low, deep voice and taking the reins in both hands, she pulled back until he slowed to a controlled walk. Attaboy. she muttered.
As they came through the park entrance, a little boy shot by on a tricycle and Tango gave a jump to the side, his brown eyes wide with fear. There was going to be a lot here that Tango was scared of, but it was a great experience for a green horse. Shannah had been avoiding taking him here for weeks, scared that he would freak out, and even now she had to struggle to stay calm as not to make Tango even more jumpy. The saying 'A horse can tell when you're afraid' definetly applied with Tango. Shannah reached down and stroked his neck reassuringly before moving back onto the path. It wasn't often that you found a park where horses were allowed in the main area, near the play park, and that was just one reason why Shannah loved Cedarwood Falls so much. She'd begged and begged her parents to let her stay in the dorms here, and after weeks of sucking up, they finally gave in. She could only hope it would all be worth it.
The sun was setting over the horizon, bathing the mountaintops in a rosy glow. The sky was stained a beautiful watercolor portrait which was reflected on the ocean in the distance. Another thing Shannah loved about Cedarwood Falls- it was so beautiful. Especially in the morning and evening, when the golden sun shone brightly through the typical Washington fog, giving the atmosphere a dreamlike quality. When Shannah reached the grassy meadow, her favorite place to be in the park, she nudged Tango into a canter. His smooth, rolling gait carried her across the grass and she felt as if she had wings. Shannah had always loved the canter.. it was so peaceful and gentle. And now Tango was even behaving. A huge grin found it's way onto her face.

A loud whinny was heard throughout the pasture as a rich chestnut stallion came racing toward to the gate where a nineteen year old boy was standing. The stallion slows his pace quickly and drops back into an extended trot then to a stop. He thrust his muzzle over the gate to look for some treats, but finding none the stallion snorted and back up and aloud Jae to slip the halter on his head and lead him out. “Good-boy Zar,” Jae praise the huge stallion, Zar bumped Jae’s shoulder in a friendly way and nickered. When Jae got the hyper stallion, he spent nearly everyday trying to gain the stallion’s trust and soon gain became a strong bond. When they got to the barn, Jae gave the stallion a quick brush over and saddle up in his dressage tack. He quickly wrapped the stallion’s legs and led him out. With a quick movement, Jae was aboard on Zar. With a slight tap with his spurs, Zar move off at a trot towards the trails. Jae had worked the stallion pretty hard the past couple of days so he thought he earn a break. After a few minutes, Zar picked up his infamous, rolling canter in high spirit.

A deep chestnut figure caught Shannah's eye and she slowed the buckskin paint she rode to a trot, leaning back and pulling gently on the reins till he slowed to a controlled, easy gait. Every now and then he tried to speed up and she had to slow him down again. Tango had great potential- if he obeyed more. Looking more closely at the approaching figure, Shannah saw a majestic chestnut horse, mane waving like a banner as he cantered across the grass. On his back sat an Asian-looking boy, moving gently with the saddle. He looked familiar- Shannah was sure she had seen him around the barn but she couldn't quite place the name. Shifting her leather reins into one hand, she smiled and gave a little wave.

Zar prick his ears forward and let out a deep, rumbling nicker which caught Jae’s attention. The boy followed the stallion’s graze and saw a pinto/paint type of horse and a girl riding it. Unsure what to do, Jae just slow Zar into a easy trot but Zar on the other hand, wanted to meet the other horse, ignored his owner and kept cantering until he was around five – eight feet away from the other horse. He stood tall and arched his neck like any usual stud would but his eyes showed that he was friendly and wouldn’t harm the other horse. “Zar, how many times have I told you not to run off with me?” Jae muttered sharply under his breath. The chestnut stallion didn’t bother to answer; instead, he extended his muzzle out and took a couple of steps forward. A lot of people didn’t understand how Zar was so friendly and loud while his owner was quiet and cold hearted, but their attitude toward riding were the same- they were was workaholic, they love the rush either of doing a rein back in western or doing a passage in dressage. It was their love to the hard work that brought them so close yet so different.

A smile small appeared on Shannah's face as the horse nickered and nickered and cantered towards her. Finally, a friendly face. But it wasn't too long before she realized that the only friendly face she could see was the friendly face of the horse who had nickered. It's rider was looking down and acting extremely shy, mumbling something about running off with someone. Shannah had to put on a fake-smile as her real one was fading fast.
Tango however, seemed perfectly happy at the idea of company. He let out a low, soft nicker, and stretched out his nose, making a little blowing noise at the other horse, which Shannah knew to be a form of greeting. The silence between the two riders however, was rapidly gaining and had formed a huge canyon. Uh, hey. I'm Shannah... I ride at Cedarwood. I think I've seen you around... Her voice was uncertain, slightly skeptical as she tried to break the ice.
Often every moody, Shannah had never been great at making friends, except with horses. Really, horses were the only ones who really seemed to understand her. They could really sense what she was feeling and they didn't keep away from her for fear of a temper tantrum. They didn't get pissed if she wasn't talking because she was in a bad mood. Rather, when she was in a bad mood, they understood her, didn't pry and prod, seemed to soak up her anger and replace it with calm. She'd heard tons of accounts of therapeutic riding making a huge difference for retarded people or abused people or something. As far as she knew, Shannah didn't have any problems like that. But her theory was that horses didn't just help retards, but normal people, even if they did have a whole band of friends. Because horses didn't care if you were ugly or fat or had a temper. They didn't care if you were the queen bee or an outcast. All they cared about was whether or not their dinner was on time. And for Shannah, that was fine.

Hearing the girl talk, Jae lowers his eyes in order to avoid eye contact with the girl but spoke as if he had just met his long lost friend. “Hey, name’s Jae and this knucklehead is Zar.” Jae has a habit of keeping his words simple and short whenever he will meet a new person. The well-broken dressage saddle creaked quietly as the boy shifted his weight and when he was good, he slid his right leg just slightly and nudge the stud’s side twice then let his leg fall forward again. As if to respond, Zar shifted his weight under the boy and move over to the right side two steps. Zar nickered again and finally extended his muzzle out and he nipped the other horse gently. He pawed the ground but stop when he felt the nudge on his side and with a snort, he lower his neck and nibble on some grass, but having the flash around his mouth wouldn’t let him open it all the way so he watched some birds hop around.

Shannah offered a small smile, but seemed useless as the guy was barely looking at her. This is Tango. She said, realizing she hadn't introduced her horse. Tango was still snorting at Zar, although the handsome chestnut had lost interest and was now staring into the distance, ignoring the younger horse. Bored, Tango pulled his head down until Shannah gave him enough rein.

"Tango" Jae echoed quietly to himself, he liked the name and look like that it fitted him good. "Are you the owner?" Jae blurted out without thinking but instead of turning deep red, Jae looked like he never said anything. Zar turn his head around to face the other horse again, he push his muzzle against the Paint's neck and gave a slight push in a friendly - bored way. He tip his back leg and set his weight on the other three.

Shannah nodded. Yeah, he's mine, but he acts like he owns me.[b]] she smirked. It was true- Shannah had to please her horse completely or else he would freak out all day. [b]I'd begged my parents for years before they finally relented, and we just kinda clicked if you know what I mean. Jae looked pretty embarrassed, so she tried to smile and act natural, but since Shannah too could be pretty shy sometimes, she found it difficult. She looked down at Tango and saw him pinning his ears back at Zar. Another similarity between Tango and his owner- they were both easily annoyed. Shannah quickly pulled the paint gelding's head around and backed him a step. She didn't want him biting the other horse, that certainly wouldn't help either of them get over their shyness.
